VUW.ai was founded by Caspar Murphy and Chris Leglu in response to a growing gap in the market: a need for truly intelligent, programmatic underwriting that enhances—not disrupts—the way brokers and carriers work.
From the outset, the founders brought with them deep experience from outside traditional insurance. Caspar's background in bond trading instilled a core belief in portfolio discipline, diversification, and capital efficiency—principles often talked about in insurance, but rarely executed at speed or scale. Chris's career in operational and insurance leadership ensured a rigorous focus on compliance, structure, and real-world delivery. Together, they saw an opportunity to apply cross-sector thinking to build an MGA for the future.
What began as a bold vision is now a fully operational MGA, supported by a senior team spanning underwriting, data science, regulatory affairs, and distribution. By combining actuarial logic with behavioural science and AI, the team has created a platform that doesn't just automate underwriting—it thinks like an underwriter and acts like a trader.
